πͺ Why Window Placement Matters
Many homes in Swindon feature windows close to their front doors, often positioned right next to the lock. Unfortunately, this makes it easy for intruders to smash the window, reach in, and unlock the doorβgiving them quick access to your home.
π Use the Right Deadbolt
Avoid this risk by installing a double-cylinder deadbolt.
This type of lock requires a key on both sides, so even if a burglar breaks the glass, they wonβt be able to simply twist the latch and let themselves in.
β Recommended:
- Grade 1 double-cylinder deadbolts
- Secure internal key storage away from doors
π« Donβt Forget the Key
It might seem obvious, but many people forget to remove the key from the inside of their lock. Leaving the key in makes a thiefβs job even easier once the window is broken.
π Tip: Always remove the key from internal locks before leaving or going to bed.
π Night-Time Window Safety
Burglars often strike at night when windows are left open for air.
Even small, unlocked windows can be a point of entry.
π Always:
- Close all windows before bed
- Use window locks
- Consider adding motion sensors or security film
